LET kval-skolen
(15th October 2007, Bologna, Italy) – Ladies European Tour (LET) Pre-Qualifying School brings 102 players to Le Fonti Golf Club in Bologna, Italy, this week, where they will attempt to make a successful start to gaining playing rights for the Tour’s 2008 season.
Both Stage I Pre-Qualifying and Stage II Final Qualifying take place at Le Fonti Golf Club over the next fortnight.
The best 24 players from Stage I (54 holes stroke play from October 17-19) will join the 66 players already exempt at the Final Stage (October 23-26) to make a field of ninety players and ties.
Final Stage qualifying comprises of 72 holes stroke play with a cut to the leading 50 players and ties after 54 holes. The top 30 players will be entitled to membership of the Ladies European Tour in category 8, which will enable them to play in the majority of full field tournaments, while positions 31-50 (plus ties) will receive membership in category 10b, with some playing restrictions.
This year’s Pre-Qualifying School features players from 28 different countries. England brings the most players with 16 contestants, followed by France with 10 players, and Sweden and Australia each with nine players. The USA is represented by seven competitors, with five from Spain and four from each of the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Japan, Wales and the host country Italy.
In addition to the European countries, there are also players from Argentina, Australia, Japan Korea, Mexico, Russia (Eurasia), South Africa, Thailand, the USA and Venezuela.
Devan Andersen from Mexico and Elvira Barcala Lurgi from Venezuela are both hoping to become the first golfers from their respective countries to earn their cards for the Ladies European Tour.
There are 43 amateurs due to take part, including Britain’s leading amateur Melissa Reid, 20, from England. The Curtis Cup star finished tied 16th at the Ricoh Women’s British Open at St Andrews in August and won the Smyth Salver Award as the highest-placed amateur. Reid plays off a handicap of plus three and aims to become the World no.1. Sweden’s Louise Stahle, the current Ryder Cup Wales Rookie of the Year in association with the Bill Johnson Trophy, earned Catergory 8 status at last year’s qualifying school.
