'101 GOLF HOLES IN A SINGLE DAY!!'
'Borregaard Golf Club' Sarpsborg, Norway
Starting @4am & finishing 12 Hours later!!
www.eyes4zimbabwe.org
At 4 am this morning, it was raining and still dark when Laurette Maritz and
Cecilie Lundgreen, Professional Golfers from the ‘Ladies European Tour’ hit
their first tee shot at the picturesque ‘Borregaard Golf Club’ Sarpsborg,
Norway...It would be the first of MANY shots as they were set to play 100 holes
for their charity ‘Eyes for Zimbabwe’, which Laurette and her Golf Coach, Reeve
Nield initiated in 1996.
Through various fundraising initiatives, they have been able to assist thousands
of cataract blinded Zimbabweans of ALL ages, including six month old babies
receive their sight.
Laurette was inspired by a friend who last year played 100 holes in a single day,
upon hearing this, she was determined to do the same to raise money for their
charity, ‘Eyes for Zimbabwe’.
Over the years their golf Sponsors, ‘Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics’ have
generously shipped nine containers to Zimbabwe which have been very kindly
filled by donors throughout America, and with the help of MANY Friends, the
Golfers have hand-packed these containers with donated medical supplies &
equipment, clothing, food, books, school supplies, nutritional food supplements,
new born kits, blankets, wheelchairs, hygiene kits etc…These MUCH NEEDED
supplies have uplifted, strengthened, given hope and brought relief to MANY,
MANY people in need!
Their goal in 2012 is to ship five 40ft containers to Zimbabwe with these much
needed items!!
Unfortunately on Saturday Cecilie cut herself in the palm of her hand, however
with Laurette’s first-aid skills acquired whilst helping the people in Zimbabwe,
she patched up Cecilie’s hand with butterfly bandages and antiseptic. Cecilie
was concerned that she would be able to play the 100 holes, however when Reeve
came with a right-handed baseball glove and some extra bandages, there was hope
and Cecilie was blessed to play with very little discomfort!
For 28 years ‘Borregaard Golf Club’ has been Cecilie’s home course, they were
most supportive and willing to let the Pros ‘run around’ the golf course
starting at 4am. The course is a great test of golf, with narrow tree-lined
fairways, water surrounding holes and smallish greens…they had to remain focused
to keep the ball in play the entire day! Reeve, their coach was there to assist,
nourish, encourage and help wherever possible.
When the green-keepers arrived at 6am, they had already played 18 holes, and
continued to play every nine holes in an average of one hour – which means that
by noon, they had played 50 holes…they were halfway done!!
The Pros prepared well with a good meal the night before and plenty of sleep, so
at 4am they were energetic, excited and ready to go! It was only when they had
played about 80 holes that the fatigue set in, however an energy drink and some
delicious sandwiches that Reeve had made helped substantially.
Although competing against each other, they had a LOT of FUN playing…‘hunting’
for birdies and eagles all the way around! There were a number of birdies and
Laurette holed a terrific 75 yard sand-wedge on the long par 5, 16th for eagle!
Several club members were excited to hear of and watch their progress, yet shook
their heads in complete disbelief that they would actually manage to play 100
holes!
Cecilie & Laurette invited ‘Borregaard Golf Club’s’ top female junior golfer,
Vilde Natalie Eriksen, to join them for 18 holes during their ‘race’ to a 100
holes! It was an opportunity to share with her a few golf tips, hoping to
inspire her towards her goals and dreams!
A friend had offered ‘Eyes for Zimbabwe’ a thousand euros if they played an
additional hole after finishing the 100 holes, so they eagerly played an
additional hole before heading back to the clubhouse.
Although tired, they were THRILLED to have accomplished such an amazing task…And
explained how they would do it all again to help others in need!
They would like to express their deepest gratitude to each of you who have so
kindly assisted them in ‘giving sight’!!
If you would still like to do so, please go to www.eyes4zimbabwe.org and push
the ‘donate’ button on the front page.
THANK-YOU for your generosity and kindness in giving sight and assisting us to
save lives!

Om arrangementet - fra Cecilie Lundgreen:
On June 18th 2012, ‘Ladies European Tour’ Golf Professionals Laurette Maritz and
Cecilie Lundgreen will play 100 holes of golf in a single day to raise money for
their charity ‘Eyes for Zimbabwe’.
In 1996 Laurette Maritz and her golf Coach, Reeve Nield initiated the charity
‘Eyes for Zimbabwe’ after meeting a young 12 year old Girl who had been blinded
by cataracts…At the cost of US$20 a 15 minute surgery was performed and she
could SEE!!
Since that time with the kind assistance of volunteering Ophthalmic Surgeons and
through golf fund-raising events, ‘Eyes for Zimbabwe’ has ‘given sight’ to
thousands of cataract patients of ALL ages including six month old babies!
During the past years, ‘Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics,’ have very kindly
assisted by shipping 40 foot containers which have been filled with donated
medical equipment, medical supplies, life-saving nutritional foods wheelchairs,
walkers, crutches, prescription, reading & dark glasses, new-born kits,
educational kits, blankets, clothing, books and SO MUCH MORE!
ATMIT is a fortified supplementary food which we have watched literally return
life and strength to those who are dying…ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!
Our goal is to raise enough money to ship five containers from the USA to
Zimbabwe with these donated life-saving items this year! (Each shipped container
costs approximately US$16 000)
We would be EXCEPTIONALLY GRATEFUL for your support by sponsoring us for each
hole played…i.e. US$1 per hole played! (the ‘DONATE’ button is on the top right
on our website
www.eyes4zimbabwe.org )
And then if you can invite 5 Friends to do the same and then for them to ask 5
of their Friends etc. etc. This way we can all assist in giving the gift of
sight, saving lives, giving hope to those in need and putting a smile on MANY,
MANY faces!
We would be SO GRATEFUL for your support and if you are anywhere near Sarpsborg,
Norway on June 18th it would be GREAT to see you there!!
THANK-YOU for helping us to give the gift of sight and the gift of life!!

Bakgrunn:
HOW ‘EYES FOR ZIMBABWE’ BEGAN…
By Reeve A. Nield
In 1996 as I walked through the Children’s ward at ‘Parirenyatwa Hospital’,
Zimbabwe I met a 12 year old girl who had been blinded with bi-lateral cataracts
for four years…Just a 15 minute surgery and the following day her eye-patches
were removed and she could see…I CRIED!!
Shortly thereafter, Laurette Maritz and I walked down the 18th hole at ‘Chapman
Golf Club’, brain storming how we could raise money through charity golf events
to purchase the much needed medical equipment and supplies to alleviate this
debilitating infirmity.
Over the past 16 years, Ophthalmic Surgeons and Nurses have kindly donated their
expertise giving sight to thousands of cataract blinded Zimbabweans of all ages,
including six month old babies! Cataract surgery costs US$20(medical supplies)
‘Ladies European Tour’ Golf Professionals have volunteered to play in golf
fund-raising events, which have raised the necessary funds to purchase vital
medical supplies.
‘Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics’ have facilitated the transportation of 40 foot
containers to Zimbabwe annually, which have been filled with medical equipment,
medical supplies, nutritional supplements, prescription, reading & dark glasses,
new-born kits, blankets, clothing, books and SO MUCH MORE!
Our ultimate goal is to eradicate cataract blindness in Zimbabwe...THANK-YOU for
helping us to do so!!
