Solveig
Helgesen prøver seg på det 19. hullet på Legend Golf & Safari Resort,
Sør-Afrika
25.02 Team Norway i Sør-Afrika:
Spesiell opplevelse
Golfsiden har tidligere skrevet om Padraig Harringtons møte med det 19. hullet.
(Se under). Mange norske elitespillere er på treningsleir i Sør-Afrika. Der
fikk de en stor opplevelse på banen som er beskrevet i nevnte artikkel som du
kan lese under.
Norske medier har mottatt denne pressemeldingen.
NORWEGIAN GOLF TEAM AIM SKY HIGH
THE sky's the limit for Norway's young golfers as they take the challenge of
the world's most talked about extreme par 3. Scandinavia's golfing stars of the
future declared Africa's most exciting golf hole, The Extreme 19th, simply “out
of this world” during their stay at the exclusive Legend Golf & Safari Resort
in South Africa.
Team Norway demonstrated just how high they are aiming with their game as they
played the longest and highest par 3 on the planet.
The Legend Golf & Safari Resort at Entabeni Safari Conservancy in the
Waterberg, Limpopo, is hosting the 31 young men and women aged between 13 and
18 for a three-week golfing training camp and wilderness experience of a
lifetime.
Team Norway's stay at Africa's most talked about new golfing venue illustrates
just how far word has spread about Legend Golf & Safari Resort's spectacular
Extreme 19th hole. The current Miss World and her fellow 111 contestants –
including Miss Norway - recently spent six inspiring days at the resort where
they enjoyed an amazing programme of activities in the bushveld.
“Everyone is talking about the Extreme 19th in Norway,” said Norwegian golf
student Solveig Helgesen, 17. “It is an amazing experience and a once in a
lifetime opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Padraig Harrington and
Sergio Garcia and tee off the top of a mountain. It really is extreme.”
Fellow student Steven Mellum was honored to be the first American to take the
challenge. The 17-year-old who has dual citizenship said: “The Extreme 19th is
such an amazing hole. It's so cool and such an honor to be the first American
to play it.
“I've read about the Extreme 19th but never thought I would have the
opportunity to play. I couldn't wait to tell everyone at home. Now my friends
are so impressed.”
Team coaches Niklas Diethelm and Christer Bengtsson were as keen as the
youngsters to get in on the golfing action. Bengtsson became the first Swede to
play the hole set high up on the impressive Hanglip Mountain and accessible
only by helicopter.
Like true challengers, Team Norway are staying on-site at the Entabeni Safari
Conservancy's Kwa Nyati Eco Adventure Camp. Their neighbours during their stay
at the tented camp are the endangered white lions who live at the Legend
Wildlife and Cultural Centre.
During their three-week stay, the 31 stars of the future aim to perfect their
game. Although the talented youngsters have travelled the globe with their
sport, all agreed that Legend Golf & Safari Resort's Signature Course is simply
unique.
As they play the not yet open for play unique 18-hole Signature Course, they
dream of becoming as big as the world famous golfing legends who each designed
one of the holes.
Elite golf student Truls Kristoffersen was particularly thrilled to play his
golf hero Sergio Garcia's design at Hole 16: “This course is like nothing else
I've ever played. You can tell the holes have been designed by really
experienced players like Garcia who know how to create a challenge. It's a very
special course with a fantastic layout.”
The legendary championship golf course designed by 18 of the world's top
golfers including Thomas Bjorn, Padraig Harrington, Trevor Immelman, KJ Choi,
Bernard Langer, Colin Montgomerie, Justin Rose, Vijay Singh, Sergio Garcia,
Retief Goosen and Sergio Garcia opens for play on 26th March 2009.
